Recommended Book List for Adults
It is imperative that any adult serving the young child - be it a teacher, parent, guide - must continue to learn, grow and evolve. As Montessori tells us, the preparation of self is of utmost importance. Books are a tool in this process.
Below you will find a list of my favorites. Most books are linked to Semicolon Bookstore and Gallery, a Black women-owned store in Chicago, Illinois and Mohagany Bookstore, an online bookstore for bestselling and classic African American books in Washington D.C. There are some books linked to independent bookstores, The Tattered Cover in Denver, Colorado and Powell’s Books in Portland, Oregon.
“It is not enough for the teacher to love the child. They must first love and understand the universe. They must prepare themselves, and truly work at it.”
